Thapar University, Patiala, was established in 1956 to provide high-quality engineers and thereby fulfil the demands of technocrats of newly independent India. Thapar University is a premier Deemed University imparting technical education and is a brand name in Indian education sphere. The university has always encouraged students to indulge in extra-curricular activities while simultaneously excelling academically as well. The result of this perfect balance and immense motivation is perhaps their annual techno-cultural festival, Saturnalia.
Saturnalia is counted amongst the largest national-level annual techno-cultural fests of India. Saturnalia is the face and pride of Thapar University. Preparations for the fest begin six months before along with a host of pre-fest events to mark the legacy of the fest.
Saturnalia, for the students of Thapar University, is a symbol of achievement and pride. It is now back with its much large and extravagant 2017 edition. Saturnalia is perhaps the perfect blend of technology and culture with more than 40 technical and 50 cultural, literary and various other events with an expected footfall of more than 10,000 students. It is perhaps the most sought-after and opportunistic platforms currently in Punjab and around North India for the budding talents all over the nation. The fest comprises of star and artist nights, EDM night, technical workshops for the intellectual population, talks regarding the future of digital India and perhaps the future of engineers, standup performances, technical and cultural competitions with participants pitching themselves against talents coming from all over India, pre-fest events and C.S.R. events.
This year the festival will be held at the end of the second week of November. Saturnalia perhaps has set a bar when it comes to social-media engagement as well. They are always active with exciting online competitions and activities up for grabs for the connected users online, with assured cash prizes and goodies for the winners and the most active users.
Saturnalia is indeed giving every other university a significant standard to get their fest on, and it will not be a surprise if we see this fest making headlines in the near future! Saturnalia is bringing Josh Talks a unique initiative for the first-time ever in Patiala. Josh Talks is a conference that has toured 9 cities in India, covered 200+ talks and reaching over 25,000 attendees live.
The goal, however, is not just to remain a conference. The goal is to become a movement that creates aspirational frustration among people. The unique feature about this event is that it is completely organized by the students which teach them the very important art of planning and execution. The Saturnalia team aims at bringing together the best of the speakers from the fields of entrepreneurship, literature and fine arts.
