A letter to the brown little me
I’m proud that you flaunt one of the most-loved colours when it comes to coffee or tea. I wonder why this world doesn’t qualify this colour when it comes to skin. I’m penning this letter to you to make you realise how gorgeous you are. I know that you and I are brought up with a sibling who is two shades lighter than us. So you’ve always had competition, whether certain clothes suited your tone or whether this lipstick shade is meant for you or not. Nevertheless, then you and I fell in love with someone who preferred us with a flawless skin. And I know all these things break your heart a million times.
So let me tell you that the scars you are frightened of are as iconic as an ancient fossil engraved in the soil indicating that something precious happened here.
The darkness you pity is just as a serene night sky, and the two eyes glittering are the sun and the moon. The smile you always felt should have been better, as imperfect and infectious as a wavering wave; not a proper curve, but powerful enough to conquer the world.
So no matter if anyone loves you or not, I will always love you, because you are me and I am you. I promise to never leave your side and forever take care of you.
Yours lovingly,
The Future You
