Alone in the street
by Divya Singh (15)
St Anthony’s Junior College, Agra
The path was known,
And the canvasses of the shops were still torn.
I could feel the warmth of your hands and the smell of your scent,
Because today was the day we had met.
I could hear the sound of our mismatched steps,
And your laughter that killed me in my heart in which you were there.
I could feel the touch of your shoulder
As you slowly drew me towards you closer in the night,
And your breath when your lips came closer to mine…
But when I opened my eyes,
I saw a blank street,
That had once encountered me and you kiss
Waiting for us to walk on it again.
But this time I am all alone and unable to fetch your memories.
All alone in the street I walk with the hope,
To see you waiting for me as you did before.
But now, my love, even my hopes are giving way,
For it’s been a year since I’ve been standing here each day.
I believe that my waiting will not be in vain,
As my heart says that we shall walk in the street
Together again.
