I want to pursue bioinformatics
I have given my Std XII exams this year and will be giving the entrance exams as well. I want to pursue a career in bioinformatics. What is its scope in India and the colleges that have this course?

Bioinformatics professionals use sophisticated computer programs to gather, analyze and track data about biological functions or characteristics in order to gain a better understanding of complex biological activities. They may study DNA or the properties and characteristics of cells.
For a B.Sc. in this field, eligibility is 10+2 in Sciences. But you can even do other related course like Bachelors in Life Sciences/Computer Sciences, B.E./B.Tech. (Computer Sciences or Information Technology/Electronics), M.B.B.S., B.Pharma now and later go for M.Sc. in BioInformatics. Some of the institutes offering courses are Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology (IBAB), Bangalore (ibab.ac.in), University of Pune, Pune (bioinfo.net.in); Bioinformatics Institute of India, (www.bii.in), Pondicherry University (bicpu.edu.in), Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi (http://jmi.ac.in).
Due to the growing Indian Biotech sector, there is a large demand for skilled Bioinformatics professionals. In addition to the national demand, there would be international demand in view of the intrinsic quality of Indian Bioinformatics professionals.
