I want to be an architect or interior designer

I am a student of Class 8. I want to be an architect or an interior designer. It is my father’s dream. I am okay in Maths but I need to improve a little bit. Should I take it for my career decision? Will it help me? Or is it very difficult? Which subject should I focus on? Which subjects should I opt for in Class 11? Are tuitions necessary?

Architects conceptualize, plan and develop designs for the construction and renovation of buildings and structures. Interior designers plan and design the interiors of homes, offices, trading places, exhibitions, etc., using suitable furnishings, lighting, layout and construction. Simply put, architects design exteriors while interior designers design the interiors.

To become an architect, you should go for Bachelor’s of Architecture (B.Arch.), a 5-year course. Eligibility for this is 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. A diploma/degree in Interior Design is the minimum requirement to enter into interior designing. Various polytechnics, institutes and vocational colleges offer these courses for which the minimum eligibility is 10+2. The duration of the course varies from two to five years.

You have two more years to decide which subjects you want to take in 10+2. Use this time to learn more about these fields and which one you’re really interested in.
