Lessons from a Missed Floor
I was taking an elevator from the third floor to the ground floor. However, in a few seconds, the lift stopped and I got out, and for a couple of seconds I was brain fogged. I had landed on the sixth floor! I didn’t intend to be there; I was clueless. I trusted the machine naively as it was routine; but the machine was not an independent entity to take sole responsibility for my whereabouts!
As I hurriedly rushed back to the lift car before it left the floor, those few seconds of confusion amused me about life itself. We head towards one destination, and sometimes end up elsewhere. Taking the incident metaphorically, I would like to take my thoughts to a few of the ‘missed floor’ events of life.
I Am Not In Control Of Myself!
Is it so? Sounds absurd, though it is a fact! The Bible has the parable of the rich fool who amasses huge wealth, and says to himself — sit back and relax. But God says to him, “You fool, what if your life is taken away tonight, where will all your possessions be?” Yes, as it is often said, we do not know what the next moment holds for us.
Much of our hue and cry centre around our inability to take control of every situation that comes in life. You want the work environment to be feasible to you; you want your partner to be fully aligned with your dreams and fancies; you want your body to pull along with your perceived self; you want the traffic signal to work as per your need. Though a cliché, the ‘I’ problem is still a serious issue in the world!
