I’m not allowed to use WhatsApp
I’m studying in Std XI. My parents say that I shouldn’t use Facebook or Whatsapp but girls my age and younger use it. I feel ashamed to admit to my friends that I’m not using Whatsapp. My friends tease me about not using any social sites. I’ve tried my best to convince them to allow me to use it as I do well in my studies, but to no avail. Please help me.

Dear Kavitha, when it comes to listening to your parents or to your friends, there is no doubt that you should give preference to your parents. They are the ones who brought you into this world and deeply care for you. Though there may be some differences of opinion between the old and the new generation, love and respect for the parents is absolutely important. You can continue trying to convince them to use some social sites, maybe even with the help of some common family friends who allow their children to use these social sites, but finally respect the decision of your parents. If you continue doing well in your studies and with your growth in age, the time will probably come when they will finally understand and allow you to use these sites.
