The best comrade

by Gargi Gupta (14)

I’m the mother of emotions that soar high in your mind’s sky,
I’m the one that comes to you and goes in the flash of your eye.

I stay with you right from your birth to your end,
Not as a mother, father, brother or sister but as a friend.

You’ll always find me standing by,
In your problems low or high,
Accompanying you in your journeys lone,
Speaking to you in a comforting tone.

My existence you can’t deny,
I’m present in every sigh,
Either of regret or of relief,
Either of joy or of grief.
I’m the one who always stands by your side
I’m the one from whom you can’t hide
I whisper and murmur then shriek and shout
To help you whenever you call out.
I can set your heart ablaze
For doing something wrong,
Or enlighten you with my
Abstract words of wisdom strong.
You do possess me but can’t control me
Neither can you separate yourself from me.
I’m the purest form of your true self
I am the god in you, your inner self.
