Youth Counselling

What about my future?

I like cricket very much and I want to be a cricketer. It’s a huge dream of mine. My mother supports me but she says that for the sake of my father I have to join NEET classes after Class 12. They want me to be a doctor or an IAS officer, but I have no interest in either. I love sports very much. What can I do?
Shreya

Dear Shreya, in the young age it is common to dream about the future. In your case the dream is of becoming a cricketer. Your parents have different opinions: your mother supports you but your father wants you to go for higher studies in order to become a doctor or an IAS officer, though you have no interest in either. For the time being I suggest that you study well and complete your education; you can play cricket in your free time. Keep an open dialogue with your parents and also with some other family member whom your parents trust, explaining your deep desire and requesting them to give you a chance to fulfil your dream. With the support of your mother and some other family members it may happen that your father too may come to agree.
